Picketer Bursack set to be back in court Tues

Fred Bursack ? a wheel-chaired local protestor known for his cryptic signs ? is scheduled to be back in court Tuesday to respond to a temporary protection from stalking order issued against him.

Back in April, Bursack appeared in a Winfield courtroom and was granted 60 days to find an attorney to represent him in the matter. Since the matter is civil, not criminal, he has to acquire and pay for his own lawyer.

District court personnel, including at least one judge, filed for the protection order and say Bursack had followed employees away from the courthouse on occasion. Court officials have said they believe Bursack has a right to peacefully protest but not a right to harass employees.

Bursack was banned temporarily from the area near the Cowley County Courthouse in early April and a judge is expected to rule on a permanent ban which would be reviewed for renewal each year.
