Deputy uses Taser to control suspect Sunday

A Cowley County Sheriff’s deputy used a Taser to subdue an Ark City man involved in a domestic disturbance early Sunday morning, undersheriff Bill Mueller said.

Jeff D. Strange, 27, Ark City, was arrested shortly after he was brought under control with an electric shock from the Taser. He faces charges of domestic battery and obstruction of the legal process.

Alexia A. Wagner, 27, Ark City, also was arrested at the scene and faces a charge of battery on a law enforcement officer.

The incident began around 1:50 a.m. when a deputy observed a disturbance in the 300 block of N. Eighth in Ark City.

Mueller said a man – who authorities later determined was Strange – was standing near a Chevy Blazer and attempting to strike or swipe at someone in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

Upon officers arrival, Strange was non-compliant. An Ark City officer was working to clear Wagner from the area so that the male suspect would calm down and stop arguing with the woman.

Wagner too was described as non-compliant and is said to have bitten an Ark City officer at one point during a struggle.

Strange, according to a report of the incident, remained uncooperative and refused to listen to officers. When it appeared he might be ready to attack an officer, the deputy deployed the Taser to bring the situation under control.

Strange was then arrested.
