Kenneth Coon

Kenneth L. Coon, 76, of Temple, Tx., and formerly of Winfield, Kan., passed away Friday morning, July 16, 2010, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Miles Funeral Service. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Kenneth’s name for the American Kidney Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Born on July 12, 1934, in Winfield, he was the son of Earl and Evelyn (Wood) Coon. He was raised and received his education in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1953. Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States Marines from 1953 to 1958.

He was united in marriage to Pat Llamas on September 20, 1958, in Newkirk, Okla. The couple made their home in Winfield. Kenneth was employed at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. In 1970, the couple moved to Temple, Tx. Kenneth received his associates degree from Temple College and was a computer programmer at Ft. Hood. He retired in 1999.

He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Temple. His hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren, reading and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, of the home; his sons, Chad Coon and wife, Sue, and Christian Coon and wife, Chastity, all of Temple, Tx.; his daughters, Candy Hitt and husband, Joe, and Cathi Green, all of Temple, Tx.; his grandchildren, Brittany, Ochen, Kimber, Chase, Shantell, Zach, Levi, Gabbie, Sierra, Nicholas, Cody and Cameron; and his great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Brooke.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Don and Leon, and his sister, Juanita Moore.
