SC to dedicate new children center Saturday

The Southwestern College Learning Center for children will officially dedicate its new building at 120 W. 12th St. on Saturday at 9 a.m. The doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and refreshments will be served.

The public is invited to attend the event, which is being held in conjunction with homecoming festivities.

The building was donated to the college by Newton and Doris Richardson and Leonard and Eleanor Richardson.

"We are very grateful to the Richardson families for the donation of the building," says Southwestern College President Dick Merriman. "This new facility will allow Southwestern to serve a larger number of children across a wider range of ages. That is a good thing for families in the community and also strengthens our program in teacher education."

The SC Learning Center will house Little Builders – preschool kids age 2 1/2 to 5 years old – and Mind Builders. In the past, Little Builders were located across the street from the college while Mind Builders were at Grace United Methodist Church.

The Richardson brothers co-founded and operated Richardson Brothers Construction Co., a local company.
