Truck, train collide north of Winfield on Wed.

A man suffered minor injuries early Wednesday evening when the utility truck he was driving collided with a train north of Winfield, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Keith M. Panno, 30, Nevada, Mo., was transported to Wesley Medical Center by ambulance following the accident. He was treated for his injuries and later released, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Panno was driving a truck owned by his employer, PAR Electrical Contractors, when the collision occurred just before 7 p.m.

The accident occurred when Panno ? who was eastbound of 82 Rd. about a quarter mile west of U.S. 77 highway ? failed to yield to the train. The 2008 Sterling truck was struck in the rear driver’s side door by the lead locomotive.

Information from the scene indicated Panno suffered a broken bone and other injuries.

It’s the second time in less than a week that a vehicle and train have collided in Cowley County. Janelle McKinney was killed Saturday when she failed to yield to a train in Hackney Township.
