Bogus bill, meth lead to woman’s arrest in AC

A counterfeit $20 bill and small amount of meth landed a Valley Center woman in the Cowley County Jail Saturday, according to a report from the Ark City Police Dept.

Tammie Renee Malone, 43, was taken into custody after an investigation into the passing of a phony bill at the Phil Stop, 1009 N. Summit. Sometime around noon, a clerk at the store recognized the bogus bill and declined to accept it for payment.

The person attempting to pass the bill ? later identified as Malone ? left the store immediately when the clerk confiscated the bill. The clerk, however, was able to obtain a tag number for the woman’s vehicle.

Around 5 p.m., an officer located the vehicle behind the rotunda at Wilson park and found the owner with a passenger in the car. Malone is said to have briefly fled and hid in a women’s restroom, where she was subsequently found.

Malone was arrested and police found a small amount of meth and drug paraphernalia. She was jailed on $8,000 bond.
