Ark City man, 39, seriously injured by firework

An Ark City man was taken to a Wichita hospital late Sunday after a fireworks-related accident.

Around 11:30 p.m., emergency personnel went to the 400 block of D for the report of an injured person. The man, 39, has not been identified by name so far.

He was transported to the hospital in Ark City and later taken by air ambulance to Via Christi-St. Francis, according to a written statement from Ark City police. The incident is still under investigation.

The injured man was said to have suffered facial injuries from a firework. Police report that he has stabilized and is being treated for the injuries.
Chief Sean Wallace offered a reminder that fireworks are illegal in the city limits of Ark City and should be handled by experienced pyrotechnicians.

First-time firework violations can result in a $50 fine and $71 in court costs, the chief said.
