Man Tased at fire charged with misdemeanor

Troy Hadley – a man who was Tasered and arrested at the scene of a fire at his home Jan. 22 – has been charged with a single count of obstruction of official duty, a misdemeanor.

Cowley County Attorney Chris Smith confirmed the charge had been filed late last week. Court officials said a charge of this nature likely would be punishable through a fine, and not jail time.

Smith acknowledged he spoke with Winfield Fire Dept. officials and gave consideration to the fact that Hadley was emotional because of the fire at his residence.

“They were satisfied with degree to which this case was charged,” he said.

The fire at 421 Broad St. gutted a portion of the home and led to the death of a family pet.

Hadley bonded out and was back at the fire scene shortly after being arrested.
