Newkirk mayor is arrested on Rx drug charges

Newkirk Mayor Frankie Arnold, 51, was in court Tuesday after being arrested on felony drug charges and is accused of fraudulently obtaining prescription painkillers.

Arnold is also a staff member at Cowley College in Ark City.

He is alleged to have sought prescription drugs from more than one physician and is said to have ordered drugs online that were delivered to city hall.

Arnold is due back in court in May and his bond was set at $1,500, according to court records. The case was investigated by the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation’s narcotics division.

The college told KSN in Wichita that it was looking into the matter before deciding if any action against Arnold was necessary.

Arnold was arrested Monday as a result of investigation that began about a year ago, according to the report.

Some information from the story was obtained from a report from KSN in Wichita.
