Fire damages home near Burden Wednesday

A home just south of Burden was heavily damaged by fire early Wednesday morning, fire officials there said.

Around 5:30 a.m., fire crews were called to a residence on 122nd Rd., about a mile south of town, said Lt. Richard Tatum, a firefighter with Cowley County Fire Dist. #3. The fire was under control by around 9:30 a.m.

A female resident was home at the time the blaze began but was able to get out of the house safely. No injuries were reported.

The single-story, wood-framed home suffered significant smoke and fire damage, Tatum said.

A cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
