Man avoids trial for bilking church camp’s card

An Ark City man has agreed to enter a plea agreement with Cowley County prosecutors to avoid trial for excessive charges made on a credit card issued him by a non-profit group for which he once worked.

Randy C. Nash, 51, is expected to enter a plea of guilty – or no contest – to two counts of criminal use of a financial card. He will appear before Judge Jim Pringle in an Ark City courtroom at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

The plea agreement means there is now no need for Nash to face a trial, which was set to begin Tuesday morning.

Nash was working for Ark City-based Prairie View Christian Camp when the incidents occurred on March 1, 2008 and Sept. 11, 2008, according to court records.

The camp accused Nash of making up to $55,000 in unauthorized charges on various occasions.

Cowley County Attorney Chris Smith said his office would leave it to camp officials, if they so choose, to pursue restitution in civil court.

It was clear the camp gave Nash the card for use on job-related expenses, but not to the extent it was used, Smith said.

After Nash enters a plea, he will be scheduled for sentencing.
