Former Mayor Taggart Wall Hired As New Winfield City Manager

The City of Winfield has announced the hiring of a new city manager.

Last night the Winfield City Commission selected Taggart Wall for the job. Wall, a Winfield native, has spent the last nine years in local government in different capacities, most recently serving as city manager in Sterling, Kan., for the past five years.

Wall first ran for public office as a Winfield High School senior and in 2011 was sworn-in as the youngest mayor in Winfield’s history at age 22 following a successful election bid to the city commission.

Wall replaces former city manager Jeremy Willmoth.

Willmoth and the City agreed to a separation contract in October after criticism of the way he handled some personnel matters, including the firing of police officer Sean Skov. The officer left the force in May following a traffic stop that same month. Skov is now the police chief in Argonia.

Willmoth is now the finance director for the City of Lawrence.

Willmoth’s removal cost the city $92,000.

Wall’s start date is slated for May 13.
