Short Burger Stays On Cowley Board Following Final Vote Count

Nancy Short Burger will remain on the Cowley County Board of Trustees following Friday’s canvass of provisional ballots.

Short Burger edged out fellow incumbent JoLynn Foster by four votes — 1,315 to 1,311.

On election night, unofficial results showed Short Burger behind Michael A. Bergagnini by five votes. Officials results show Bergagnini with the fifth-most votes with a final tally of 1,307.

Sitting Cowley College Board of Trustees Chairperson Jill Long still had the most votes, officially, with 1,813, while Harold “Doc” Arnett still came in second place with 1,652 votes.

The top three vote totals win a seat on the board.

Jonathan Hansen also ran for a board seat and received 749 votes.

In the Ark City commission race, the unofficial results held — but it was still a razor-thin margin of victory for incumbent Duane Oestmann.

On election night, Oestmann held just a one-vote advantage over Travis Pearman, but on Friday that margin grew to a five-vote gap, 537 to 532 to hold on to the seat.
