BREAKING: Bondsman At Residence When Man Was Fatally Shot Near Cambridge

An updated news release from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office Monday afternoon has added more information to a fatal shooting late Sunday night near Cambridge in rural Cowley County.

According to authorities, a bondsman was at the residence of 38-year-old Jacob Cole Nettrouer the night he was shot.

One sheriff’s deputy was present outside the residence at 17698 271st Road and one was on their way to do a civil stand-by for the bondsman, who was at the house to take Nettrouer back to jail for a bond revocation.

The bondsman was making contact with Nettrouer when the shooting occurred.

“This was not an attempted arrest by law enforcement,” the news release stated. “When deputes heard gunfire they immediately made contact with the victim and attempted life saving measures. A preliminary autopsy lists the cause of death as a single gunshot wound. The case continues to be investigated and it will be turned over to the Cowley County Attorney for review.”

No arrests have been made.

Cowley County Sheriff’s investigators are currently investigating a fatal shooting in rural Cowley County late Sunday night, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office Monday morning.

Deputies responded to a residence located at 17698 271st Road in Cambridge at approximately 10:54 p.m. Sunday and found a man who had a gunshot wound to the chest.

Lifesaving efforts were made but the individual, identified as 38-year-old Jacob Cole Nettrouer died at the scene.

In the news release, the sheriff’s office said it was not an officer-involved shooting.

Cowley County Sheriff David Falletti told KSOK-NewsCow Monday morning that the case is currently a “death investigation” and that no one is in custody. He expects that the investigation will conclude and any information gathered will be sent to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office for consideration.

In November, a search warrant was conducted at the same residence by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office. Nettrouer was arrested on theft and drug charges, along with another man, 39-year-old Rexo L. Mackey of Geuda Springs.
