Atlanta businesses damaged; patrols hiked

Someone is kicking in doors of Atlanta’s Main street businesses and causing a fair amount of property damage, according to reports from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Department.

In the past five days, two Atlanta businesses and the local volunteer fire department reported doors were kicked in, but no other property appears to have been taken or damaged, the reports said.

On Friday, Wagon Wheel Cafe, 323 Main, and Mojack, a lawnmower shop at 322 Main, reported busted-in doors. Damage to the two establishments is estimated at $1,000. The fire department, located at 302 Main, suffered damage to a door jam Monday, a report said.

In response, sheriff’s deputies are increasing their patrols of Atlanta.

“We made it a point the last two days…to get up there as much as possible,” said Undersheriff Don Read. “(The officers) obviously can’t stay up there 24-7 because we have 1,190 square miles to cover.”
