Cowley approved for federal disaster funds

Cowley County is among 18 Kansas counties approved for federal disaster relief funds following heavy flooding late last week.

President George W. Bush approved the request for federal aid made by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. The approval covers reimbursements to local and state government and some non-profit organizations for emergency protective measures taken prior to and during the flooding which began June 29.

Additional areas for reimbursement are still under review. This approval does not yet include individual assistance.

Other counties included in the state declaration are Anderson, Allen, Butler, Bourbon, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Coffey, Cowley, Elk, Franklin, Greenwood, Linn, Miami, Montgomery, Neosho, Osage, Wilson and Woodson.
