Southwestern College adds four to its faculty

With classes set to begin Aug. 22, four new members have joined the full-time Southwestern College faculty.

The following is biographical information for each:

? John Scaggs holds a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Limerick and a master’s degree from the University College in Dublin, Ireland.? Most recently, Scaggs served as the head of the English language and literature department at Mary Immaculate College in Limerick, Ireland.? His publications include several articles, edited works, and other contributions.

?Saeed Yazdani has been serving as the head of the computer science department at Lane College in Tennessee.? Prior to that, he taught in Lahore, Pakistan, at the Institute of Management Sciences.? Yazdani holds a doctorate of business administration from Argosy University and an M.S.M. from Bowie State University.? He has served in a number of industry positions including as a branch manager for Siemens Corporation, Saudi Arabia, and sales team leader at General Electric Information Service, Saudi Arabia.? Yazdani is an associate member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

? Mike Harper is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Arkansas where he is completing a dissertation in the field of ethics.? He has taught a variety of philosophy courses at both John Brown University and the University of Arkansas.? He is the author of “Whistleblowing. Corporate and Public Policy” in The Encyclopedia of Public Administration and Public Policy and “Looking into the Mirror of Evil: A Review of the Moral Philosophy of Eleonore Stump” in Reconsiderations (Gainsville, 2004)

? Melanie Johnson earned her bachelor’s degree from SC in 1987.? Since that time, she has gained wide experience in nursing and has served as director of nursing at Good Samaritan Society and Sumner Regional Medical Center, Wellington.? Johnson is currently completing her master of science in nursing through the University of Phoenix.
