Steve Shamburg, a 45-year-old house painter from Winfield, remained in critical condition Friday morning with burns over most of his body suffered in a traffic accident Aug. 28.
Shamburg’s small passenger car ran off a curved section of N. College Street, into a deep ditch, and hit a tree. He was able to unlatch his seat belt but it didn’t retract.
Shamburg was eventually able to get part of the way out of the car and rescuers helped him the rest of the way. A passenger in the car escaped serious injury.
He is a patient at Via Christi – St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
