County meetings to focus on budgets, phones

Cowley County commissioners will consider purchasing a new telephone system when they meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the first floor assembly room at the courthouse.

Three different proposals range from $95,789 to $135,300.

The news system will take the place of all main campus phone systems providing service to the following departments, health, community corrections, juvenile, sheriff, attorney, engineer, register of deeds, treasurer, management information systems, clerk, appraiser, Kansas State Extension,? district court and emergency management.

Remote sites in Arkansas City and the former State Bank Building, once it is remodeled and networked, are included in the change.

Commissioners have a thick packet of information to help them decide which system will answer the county’s needs.

Also during the Tuesday meeting, commissioners will consider an agreement with McCully & Associates to provide assistance on the county’s 2009 commercial valuation for $12,700 and several right-of-way agreements for the U.S. 160 and Cowley 3 intersection project.

The commission will return to the courthouse at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday for a budget work session. Appointments have been scheduled throughout the day with the various department heads.

Both meetings are open to the public.
