New county jail to be site of meeting Tuesday

The Cowley County commission meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday will be held for the first time in the multipurpose room in the new jail that is under construction. Those attending should enter the east door of the courthouse and go through the door for the jail where there will be further instructions.

A new entrance is being built for the Cowley County Extension office at the south end of the existing courthouse. The room where the commission usually meets is also located at the south end of the courthouse.

The commission met last week in the new county building purchased from the State Bank . The extension office is temporarily housed there as well. An architect is working on plans to allow some county offices to move there permanently.

A public hearing will be held during the commission meeting regarding the amended use of some funds budgeted for 2007. The county can spend less than the budget approved but not more without going back to taxpayers and allowing them an opportunity question the expenditures.
