Builder Fest marks new era of SC football

A new era in football at Southwestern College is bringing new excitement and new traditions to the campus.

Builder Fest is slated for Saturday, Sept. 22, and head football coach Ken Crandall and his planning committee have filled the event with food, football, and fun.

“We are hoping to bring the community and the campus together,” Crandall says. “The youth football game will initiate Builder Fest and our game will conclude it.”

Builder Fest events include:

? At 3 p.m. the Winfield sixth grade football team will take on Andover inside Sonner Stadium.

? At 5 p.m. on the north end of Sonner Stadium, inflatable games will be open for the youth to enjoy.

? Southwestern College food service will be serving hamburgers or hot dogs with potato chips and a drink for $3.? All of the hamburgers are being donated by Creekstone Farms. Snow cones will be sold for $1.

? At 7 p.m., the Southwestern College football team will battle McPherson College.

Just before the Moundbuilders take the field, Crandall is inviting all fans to form a “Builder Canal” at the south end of Sonner Stadium. The SC football team will run through the canal as they enter the field. Crandall hopes this will turn into a Southwestern tradition.

The game also is Cowley Appreciation Night, and admission to the SC-McPherson game is free for all Cowley County residents and Southwestern College students. Crandall is suggesting that fans bring a non-perishable food item to support the Winfield Food Pantry.
