Cowley Humane Society chops fee for Oct.

If you’re in the market for a new dog, now is the time to take a look at nearly 100 dogs available at the Cowley County Humane Society.

October is adopt-a-dog month and to help find homes for more dogs, the humane society is cutting its adoption fee to $5. The fee does not include a spay and neuter deposit that is refunded once the procedure is complete.

The humane society has recently found homes for a number of animals. Local officials say adopting a shelter animal is a responsible way to become a pet owner because the humane society provides care and placement services for the abandoned, stray and homless animals in and around the county.

“We had a record number of adoptions in August and September,” said CCHS Shelter Director Teresa Harden. “We hope anyone looking for a new family member will help us make October just as successful.”

For more information on any of the animals at CCHS, visit the shelter at 7648 222nd Road between Winfield and Arkansas City near Strother Field. Animals available for adoption can also be seen here and on the Pet Parade on Arkansas City’s public access cable channel.

New shelter hours beginning October 1 are:

Tuesday ? Friday: 12-6 pm

Saturday: 10 am ? 2 pm
