Severe weather hitting Cowley County Wed.

Today is a good day to review plans on how to deal with severe weather both at work and at home.

The National Weather Service is warning that a major severe weather outbreak is likely today over the Midwest due to an intensifying low pressure system that is drawing in tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.

The weather has the potential to generate strong, long-track tornadoes, according to the weather service. Wichita and Cowley County are included in the area of concern.

Several tornado watches were already in effect in Oklahoma this morning.

A tornado watch was issued for southeastern Kansas. It does not include Cowley County but does include Chautauqua and Elk counties.

Storms in Oklahoma have a history of producing 90 mile an hour winds.
