Tornado touches down east of Ark City Mon.

Tony Williamson’s family is safe after a tornado roughed up his home in rural Cowley County early this morning, and for that he is thankful.

Monday’s noisy thunderstorm brought with it a tornado that touched touchdown briefly overnight in the Maple City Township area. There were 10 people inside the Williamson home when the tornado hit, no one was injured.

Brian Stone, the county’s emergency management director, said photos of the Williamson home were submitted to the National Weather Service for analysis.

"In my opinion it was a tornado and I base that on the fact that we had a report of a touchdown from a spotter within about a mile of the (Williamson home)," Stone said. "So based on that I’d say yes, but we always like to get confirmation from the weather service."

The twister did take a portion of the roof off the home and threw a horse trailer about 150 yards. Williamson’s house suffered considerable structural damage as well. His home located east of Arkansas City.

Spotters and National Weather Service radar indicate the tornado touched down at 1:52 a.m.

Williamson’s home is located at 19038 292nd Road, which is shown on the map below:
