Man hurt in collision with train is improving

The condition of 52-year-old Michael Kent of Arkansas City has been upgraded from to serious from critical, a Wesley Medical Center spokeswoman said Sunday.

Kent, a former Kay and Cowley deputy sheriff’s officer, suffered massive injuries when his car was struck by a train north of Newkirk Tuesday night.

He was due to appear in federal court the day after the accident on charges involving the sexual exploitation of children.
