SC students inducted into nursing society

Seven Southwestern College senior nursing students were recently inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International, the honor society of nursing.

The inductees are: Kelli Bunnel, Welda; Caylin Larsen and Trisha Winegarner, Winfield; Sara Tolle, McPherson; Melanie Burnett-Wilson, Oxford; Jennifer Knudsen, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Jennifer Thompson, Wichita.

STTI provides leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research to enhance the health of all people, and supports the learning and professional development of members who strive to improve nursing care worldwide.

STTI was founded in 1922 by six nursing students at the Indiana University School of Nursing in Indianapolis , Ind. The founders chose the name from the Greek words Storg?, Tharsos, and Tim? meaning love, courage, and honor.?

Southwestern College is part of Epsilon Gamma Chapter-at-Large of STTI, which also includes the nursing programs at Bethel College, Newman University, Tabor College, and Wichita State University.? Students inducted into STTI must be in a BSN or graduate nursing program and meet eligibility requirements which include having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, rank in the top third of the class, and have successfully completed at least one-half of their required nursing curriculums.? ???

Bunnel was also the Iota Chi Award recipient from Southwestern, which is awarded to the inductee from each of the five units (SC, Bethel, Newman, Tabor, and WSU) with the highest grade-point average.
