Animal cruelty case continued until late Jan.

Arraignment for a Winfield man charged with animal cruelty has been continued until Jan. 28, according to District Court records.

James A. Bell, Jr., 19, was scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 30. He is charged with killing a cat by allegedly swinging the animal by its tail until the cat’s head struck the concrete.

Cruelty to animals is defined by Kansas law as intentionally killing, injuring, maiming, torturing or mutilating an animal.
