County figuring out confusion on vehicle bids

Looks like Reedy Ford may have lost some county business while Kline Motors picked up some because a bid document from Reedy Ford “was misinterpreted” before last weeks commission meeting.

Commissioners had bids for vehicles for both Community Corrections and the County Appraiser departments. Commissioners Gary Wilson and Dick Bonfy approved the purchase of?a 2008 Impala LS? for $17,953 from Merle Snider. Carmelita Clarkson, voted against the purchase because the price was several thousand dollars more than the Department of Corrections grant.

All three commissioners voted to purchase two 2008 Ranger XLT Super Cab 4X4 pickups from Reedy Ford for the appraiser’s office. However, the agenda for the 7 p.m. Tuesday meeting indicates Reedy Ford actually submitted a bid for only one pickup with the trade-in allowance for both of the county vehicles subtracted from the bid for that one pickup. A second pickup would cost $17,716 for a total of $33,481 for two pickups.

This means, according to the agenda, that Reedy Ford did not submit the low bid for the pickups. Kline Motors with a bid of $31,949 was the actual low bidder.

The commission will meet in regular session on the second floor of the former state bank building south of the courthouse. Meetings are open to the public and time set aside for anyone wishing to talk with the commission.
