Worst of winter blast should skip Cowley Co.

FYI – It’s in the 70s in Hawaii and 83 at Saint Thomas. On the other hand, you could be in Alaska where the temperature can fall to minus 60 degrees.

Closer to home, snow advisories and winter storm watches extend from eastern Colorado through Kansas and into Wisconsin. A number of school districts in western Kansas were dismissing early and many evening events were being canceled. Strong winds were producing near whiteout conditions in some areas.

So, the local forecast may not be so bad after all.

South-central Kansas was under no watches or warnings late this morning. The light precipitation was supposed to change over to snow showers later today. Rain was changing to sleet in downtown Wichita late this morning. Cowley County may get an inch of snow tonight but the latest forecast indicates the area will escape the heavier snow and winter mix predicted for other areas of Kansas.

Strong winds and cold temperatures may offer the biggest challenge but a reason for couch potatoes to enjoy their favorite pastime.
