More than 10,000 bond issue ballots mailed

The Cowley County election office Thursday mailed 10,401 ballots for Unified School District 470’s school bond election, County Clerk and Election Officer Karen Brooks said.

School patrons who aren’t registered have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to register and request a ballot to vote in the nearly $36 million bond election. Ballots will not automatically be sent but must be requested. They must be marked, signed and returned by March 4 at noon.

Monday is a federal holiday and the election office will be closed but registration cards are available at the school district office, the city building, Country Mart, Dillons, Graves, Home National Bank, Corner Bank, Union State Bank and the Arkansas City Library. You could also register in person in the election office Tuesday.

More than 70 percent of the costs of the bond issue will go toward improving and upgrading existing facilities.
