2nd half of property tax payment is due soon

The second half of 2007 real estate taxes is due in the Cowley County Treasurer’s Office May 10.

If you’re waiting for a notice that your second half payment is due – don’t. No statements are mailed for the second half of your payment.

If you’re waiting for your tax rebate check from President Bush – don’t. How many times have we heard “the check’s in the mail?” How many times have we said ourselves that “the check’s in the mail?”

A number of government entities are eagerly awaiting your payments. If you’re not sure how County Treasurer Kathy Foust distributes your taxes, look on the right side of the tax statement you received last fall.

For example, a home in Winfield appraised at $95,000 is hopefully producing revenue for the following:

State 16.10

County 438.60

Winfield City 541.55

Cowley CC 213.87

USD 465 General fund 168.60

USD 465 Bond and Interest 110.25

USD 465 Other Funds 233.52

USD 465 Recreation 44.89

Total Tax Due $ 1,767.38

Your share of the cost of the new Cowley County jail won’t be reflected on your personal property tax statements but on your cash register receipt when you make a purchase in Cowley County. Voters approved a half-cent sales tax to raise the money to build the new jail and administrative offices.
