Cowley water district earns clean water award

Cowley County’s Rural Water District #1 has been recognized by the state for striving to provide a public water supply that goes beyond normal standards for safety.

The Capacity Development awards were given to 10 Kansas entities recognized for exceeding standards set in the federal Safe Water Drinking Act. The rural water district’s award was to be presented at the water district office Wednesday evening.

This is the third year the Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment has given the awards. Funding for the honor comes from the Environmental Protection Agency and is one of the ways KDHE works to promote the use of cleaner, safer water.
