GE gets $9.2 million chopper engine contract

General Electric Engine Services has been awarded a $9.2 million contract to overhaul and upgrade 20 military helicopter engines. The work will be done at facilities in Cowley County.

The turbine engines are part of the T-700 engine line which is worked on extensively at GE’s Winfield plant. Engines in this line are used in Blackhawk and Apache helicopters.

The contract was awarded by the U.S. Army, according to the U.S. Dept. of Defense.

Work is estimated to be complete by April 30, 2011.

The contract was officially awarded in April.
