Two Arkansas City Police officers have been promoted to the rank of sergeant, according to Chief Sean Wallace.
Kevyn Ternes and John Merz are moving up from the rank of corporal to take two open sergeant positions with the department. The moves will take affect May 24.
Sgt. Merz will serve at least one year as a school resource officer, and Sgt. Ternes will be assigned to one of the patrol night shifts. Five candidates interviewed for the job.
Recommendations for promotions are made by promotional boards who consult with Wallace.
