Local man picks up $20,000 from the lottery

Winfield’s Marty Moore left home for Topeka this week expecting to pick up $2,000 in lottery winnings ? he came home with ten times that.

"My wife and I waited until she could get off work to come to Topeka to claim the $2,000 prize I thought I had won on a Bonus Crossword ticket," Moore explained. "After checking the ticket, the Lottery said I was wrong. They told me I hadn’t won $2,000 ? instead, I’d won $20,000."

Moore, 46, had miscounted the number of words he had uncovered on his $2 Bonus Crossword ticket. He thought he had nine words, but he actually had ten, winning him a top prize on the Lottery’s most popular instant scratch ticket.

The Kansas Lottery announced Moore’s win through a written statement.

Moore’s win was announced by the Kansas Lottery this week. He bought his ticket at Felt’s One Stop 4, 221 E. Ninth. He says he also won $500 on a scratch ticket he purchased there a couple of months ago.

Moore and his wife Kim have been married for seven years and have four daughters between them. They plan to use their prize money to pay down their home mortgage.
