Williard receives jail sentence for sex crime

A Winfield man who admitted he took indecent liberties with a child will spend 60 days in the county jail and 36 months in the adult intensive supervision program administered by Cowley County Community Corrections.

Should Aaron Williard fail to meet the terms of his probation period, his probation could be revoked and he would spend his 32 month prison sentence with the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Williard, 20, was originally charged with six counts of rape. The accusations included the forcible rape of an adult woman in 2006 and raping a girl under 14 years of age on five occasions in 2006. He pleaded guilty to the one indecent liberties charge and the remaining five charges were dismissed.

District Court Judge Nick St. Peter Tuesday handed down the 32 month prison sentence, then placed Williard on probation for 36 months with the community corrections program.

There were special conditions placed on his probation which include spending 60 days in jail on the work release program, registering as a sex offender and completing a treatment program.

He must also take a polygraph test any time requested by his supervision officer and have no contact with any child less than 18, except for his own.

CCCC Director Mike Knapp said Williard will have to report a minimum of once a week. meet face-to-face with his supervisor weekly and undergo a home visit at least once a month. Breath, blood, urine and hair samples must also be provided if requested, according to Knapp.
