Treasurer: County has more motorcycle tags

The Cowley County Treasurer’s Office Thursday received a supply of motorcycle tags. Clerks are in the process of notifying people waiting for the tags or mailing them out to people who requested they be mailed.

"That’s been a real challenge," Cowley County Treasurer Kathy Foust said. "State-wide – the state was not prepared for all the people buying motorcycles."

She believes people are buying motorcycles because of the rising cost of fuel. Motorcycles get many more miles to a gallon of gas than a motor vehicle, she said.

The tag shortage wasn’t just in Cowley County but across the state. The office has been providing a 30-day permit and has gone ahead and registered cycles if the 30 day period had expired.

Foust also said the treasurer’s office will be closed Thursday, Sept. 11 so staffers may attend a seminar being presented by the state motor vehicle department in El Dorado.
