Small plane crashes near Douglass Thurs.

A small airplane crashed five miles southeast of Douglass Thursday afternoon, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. No injuries have been reported.

The highway patrol received reports of a mid-air explosion prior to the crash and are investigating whether the pilot used a parachute to escape the plane.

It was difficult for dispatchers to communicate with officers on the scene due to the remote location of the crash. Parts of the plane were reported to be stuck in a tree at the scene, according to initial reports.
