NEW: Woman spoke with deputy prior to crash

UPDATE: 12:40 p.m. Tuesday – The woman involved in Monday night’s accident has been identified as Sharon K. Hannah, 53, of rural Ark City.

The sheriff’s department has yet to interview the woman about the accident. She could offer little information about what happened at the scene because a head injury left her confused and disoriented.

Undersheriff Bill Mueller said Hannah left the road south of Strother Field, struck a barbed wire fence and a cluster of small trees before striking a bigger tree.

Authorities also confirmed Hannah had met with a sheriff’s deputy 10 minutes before the wreck to file a harassment by phone complaint. She spoke with a deputy at the Winfield Police Dept.

Mueller the filing of the report obviously raised suspicions about the circumstances leading to the accident. Thus far, however, authorities have found no connection between the two incidents.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.

A woman suffered a head injury ? and possibly a broken bone ? when her vehicle left U.S. 77 highway south of Strother Field and struck a cluster of trees Monday.

The accident happened around 6 p.m. when a 1998 GMC Jimmy traveling in the southbound lane of the highway, left the road. It traveled more than a 100 yards before crashing in a wooded area.

Crews used extrication equipment to remove the woman from the wreckage.

Emergency personnel at the scene reported the woman was conscious but had bumped her head and was showing signs of confusion. Her name has not been released.

She was listed in serious condition as she was being transported by ambulance to a hospital in Ark City.
