AC woman suffers minor injuries in a.m. wreck

An Arkansas City woman received minor injuries in a roll-over accident just north of Winfield early Thursday morning, Cowley County Undersheriff Bill Mueller said.

Charlotte Baker, 51, was northbound on U.S. 77 when her 1997 Ford Explorer drifted off the right shoulder of the highway. Baker is said to have over corrected, returned to the roadway but skidded off the right shoulder again.

The vehicle rolled several times and Baker was ejected. She was conscious and talking with officers arriving at the scene.

The accident occurred around 6:40 a.m. just north of the intersection of U.S. 77 and 132nd Rd.

Baker was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt. She was first taken to William Newton Hospital and later transferred to Wesley Medical Center.

A hospital spokesperson said Baker was in fair condition late this morning.
