Preliminary hearing held in Jump Start case

A decision whether a Wichita man will stand trial for attempted first degree murder during a shooting at the Jump Start convenience store will be announced at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 7.

A preliminary hearing was held Tuesday and part of Wednesday in Cowley County District Court in Winfield for Robert L. White. The 26-year-old man is accused to intentionally and with premeditation trying to kill Aaron Brown, who was 26 when the shooting occurred early one Sunday morning in October 2007.

Nearly two dozen shots were fired following a verbal altercation at the store. Brown was struck by one of the bullets and was treated in the local emergency room and then released.

The penalty for attempted first degree murder – a severity level one person felony – ranges from a minimum of 147 months to a maximum of 653 months in prison, and a fine of up to $300,000.

White was recently evaluated at the Larned State Hospital.
