Thurber competency hearing set for Dec. 16

Capital-murder suspect Justin Thurber’s competency to stand trial will be the subject of a closed hearing set for later this month.

Attorneys in the case are scheduled to meet with Judge Jim Pringle on Dec. 16. The public will not be allowed to attend the proceedings.

Thurber’s murder trial was postponed earlier this fall when his attorneys argued he was mentally unfit to stand trial. The defendant spent some time in Larned undergoing a psychological evaluation.

Thurber is accused of murder, rape or attempted rape in the death of Arkansas City’s Jodi Sanderholm.
