First half payment of property tax due Dec. 20

First half payment of property tax is just a week away – Dec. 20. Since the 20th falls on a Saturday, taxpayers will have a grace period until the following Monday – the 22nd. The Dec. 22 postmark will be accepted without additional penalty.

"So far so good," County Treasurer Kathy Foust said. "Payments are coming in pretty much on schedule. A lot of them are from mortgage companies."

The treasurer’s office collects and distributes the taxes for all the government entities in Cowley County.

The regular tax statement and the information sheet on each piece of property have been combined onto legal-size paper and were mailed around Thanksgiving. The change in the format will eliminate the need for two mail-outs, according to Coulee County Treasurer Kathy Foist.

You may pay your taxes by check, cash, credit card and on the www.cowleycounty.org website. Debit cards are not accepted. There is a convenience fee if you use a credit card which is passed on to the providers of the credit card service.

The treasurer’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office remains open during the lunch hour. The courthouse will be closed Nov. 27 and 28th for the Thanksgiving holiday.
