Man beaten at bar released from the hospital

A man who was badly beaten at a bar on the state line south of Ark City has been released from a Wichita hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Bart Canaday, 49, was taken to Wesley Medical Center Monday after police found him outside Outlawz Bar and Grill, 33947 61st Rd. He was listed in critical condition Tuesday but a hospital official confirmed early Friday that Canaday had been released.

Two men, Dakota Don Bailey, 23, and Lynn James Johnson, 30, face aggravated battery charges in Cowley County. They were arrested in Kay County Okla. sometime after the incident at Outlawz.

Cowley County undersheriff Bill Mueller also has confirmed to NewsCow that an altercation is said to have begun inside the bar before the men ended up outside. Several readers had contacted NewsCow about this story because they believed the bar had been closed when the incident occurred.

Mueller said interviews and other evidence indicate the men argued and may have even began fighting in the bar before the altercation moved outside.
