Cowley County Sheriff Don Read and County Commissioner Alan Groom, among others, were sworn into office Friday morning. Read and Groom both became elected public-office holders for the first time.
Read replaced Bob Odell, who is retiring after more than 20 years as sheriff. Groom defeated incumbent Carmelita Clarkson in the November general election.
Register of Deeds Nancy Horst, County Attorney Chris Smith, Commissioner Gary Wilson and Clerk Karen Defore started new terms on Friday.
