Eck resigning as Cowley head b-ball coach

Cowley College head basketball coach Steve Eck is leaving the program after two successful seasons at the helm, school officials said. The board of trustees accepted Eck’s resignation at its meeting Monday night.

The resignation is effective the end of this month. Assistant coach Lance Madison also has resigned, the school said. A report in the Wichita Eagle indicates Eck is to be named head coach at Hutchinson Community College.

A press conference is set for noon Wednesday in Hutchinson.

Eck was 60-8 in two years as head coach and led the team to a school-record 31 victories in 2007-08. The current season ended last week with a loss to Garden City in the Region VI title game in Wichita.

Cowley was 29-5 this year.

Cowley College will "act fast in finding a replacement for Coach Eck and anticipate hiring another outstanding coach," school officials said in a written statement late Monday.
