Election officer predicting 15 percent turnout

County Clerk and Election Officer Karen Defore will be happy if more than 15 percent of the registered Cowley County voters actually vote in Tuesday’s city and school elections.

"I expect 15 percent," she said. "Hopefully, Cowley County proves me wrong. I would love to be wrong."

Voters may call the clerks office until Friday evening to request a ballot for the elections be mailed. Ballots must be returned to the clerk’s office at the courthouse by the time polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to Defore. Voters may also vote advance ballots in the clerk’s office until noon Monday.

Several polling places in the outlying areas will not be open Tuesday because of traditionally low turnout, she said.

The changes include:

* Anyone in Salemn Township will vote at Baden Square.

* Anyone who voted at Tisdale Methodist Church will vote at the First Christian Church in Winfield.

* Rock Creek and Fairview Township voters have voted at Grandview. Rock Creek voters will go to the Udall Senior Center and Fairview voters will go to Baden Square.

* Liberty Township voters will vote at the First Christian Church in Winfield.

* Vernon Township voters will vote at the Elks Lodge in Winfield.
