Seven of eight people arrested by Arkansas City police Saturday were involved in underage drinking. Two of the eight were also charged with possession of marijuana.
The arrests occurred after police went to a house in the 1200 block of S. Sixth Street to check the welfare of a juvenile. They saw an underage male carrying beers through the house.
No one answered the door but police observed the odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the house, according to police chief Sean Wallace. They also smelled marijuana from a vehicle that pulled up while police were securing the house for a search warrant.
Alvaro Dieguez was arrested for possession of marijuana and underage drinking. Juan Garcia was arrested for possession. Two juveniles who were in the vehicle were arrested for underage drinking along with four people in the house – Tyler R. Hibbs, 18, a 14-year-old girl, Kyle Russell, 18 and Nathanial Thomas, 18.
