Winfield native Cheryl Lyn Higgins has been selected as the new Winfield Area of Commerce CEO, chamber officials announced Thursday.
She started in the new position this week and replaces Lonnie Boyd, who left in January for a job with Southwestern College. Higgins’ selection was announced by Chamber President Mike Niederee.
"Cheryl Lyn has a true passion for Chamber work and offers 13 years of successful Chamber management experience," Niederee said.
She previously managed chambers in McPherson and Junction City.
Born and raised in Winfield, Higgins was a familiar voice to radio listeners for 20 years. She began a lengthy broadcast career while going to school, a career that included managing the former WKS in Winfield and serving as long-time news director for KSOK.
Higgins said the opportunity to work with longtime friends helped lure her back to Cowley County.
"Arkansas City Chamber Executive Janet Seibert is a close and dear friend," she said. "Cowley First Director Heidi Hill is, too. The chance to work with them made a return home all the more desirable."
