Police in Winfield will use special federal grant funding to increase enforcement of seat belt and child passenger safety laws beginning in October.
Cowley County ? according to the Kansas Dept. of Transportation ? is in a 10-county area where seat belt and safety-seat usage is well below the state average. The rural seat belt campaign is part of the state’s effort to improve usage.
Winfield Police Chief Danny Parker said the local department is supportive of efforts to increase seat belt and safety seat usage.
"Simply put, we are enforcing the laws," he said.
